We had so much fun admiring this contemporary and colorful brownstone renovation by Joanne of J Laurie Designs LLC. Her color palette skews more neutral, but these clients love color, so she had fun playing with different hues, textures and alternating between high and low details. “We wanted comfort and color, but it’s an open concept, so a lot of color came from rugs rather than splashing on the walls.”

The tropical monochromatic wallpaper brings out the black chair and makes the green couch pop.

The modern aesthetic is softened with artwork, dried florals and a delicate, organic chandelier.
